Comission Piece
Back in mid March 2024 I received a random message on my web site from Janine Young, the managing editor for Nightwood Editions, a small press based in Coastal BC. Each year, Nightwood publishes a crosswords book called O Canada Crosswords and they feature folk art on the cover.
They were putting together their 25th anniversary edition and wanted to know if they could use some of my existing folk art on the cover. 😳 (Previous editions have been adored by some of my favourite folk artists)
After some initial discussions, they asked if I was interested in a special commission for the cover. (Ahhh yeah I was!!!) They wanted an iconic Canadian animal and something that was both celebratory and somehow crossword related.
Which brings us to my newest creation developed especially for the publication. Available at Chapters indigo and online at nightwoodeditions.com - woot woot!!

When you like pie better, but cake is traditionally used for celebration. And you know geese can honk just fine without a festive horn, you suspend all belief (cause who would believe you anyways) and bake up something 25th anniversary worthy.
From the “it’s time to buzz the tower“ collection and the “what’s a 10 letter word for a mad collection of letters*” series, we puzzlingly present:
O Canada Goose (aka Goose on a cake )
Adorned with Canada’s most iconic (and celebratory ) goose, this cake features a crossword inspired icing top as well as the most pointed of pencils. Perfect to create the next best selling crossword book, grocery list or act as a muse for virtually any creative endeavor.
